Bill Geddie Obituary – Cause of Death: ‘The View’ co-creator, Bill Geddie died at 68.
American television producer, Bill Geddie has passed away, ‘The View’ announced on Friday. Geddie died of coronary-related factors on July 20, 2023, three days after his 68th birthday.
Geddie best known for being a creator (with Barbara Walters) of ABC Daytime’s The View, on the ABC television network; he was the executive producer too. He was also a partner with Walters in BarWall Productions and co-produced popular American television shows such as The Barbara Walters Special and The 10 Most Fascinating People annual special.
Geddie was also the owner of May Avenue Productions.
“It’s with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of ‘The View’ co-creator and one of television’s most well-respected producers, Bill Geddie. He was a pioneer in television and greatly beloved by ‘The View’ family, creating the show with Barbara Walters and serving as its executive producer for 17 years,” ‘The View’ announced via a social media post.
William Frederick Geddie was born in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1977, majoring in communications/film. He had a job buffing the floors at KOCO-TV, in Oklahoma City.
Geddie was the co-creator and the original executive producer for The View; which began in August 1997 and he was ousted in 2014.
The announcement of Geddie’s passing was flooded by heartfelt tributes and condolences across social media. He will be sorely missed.
“I am completely devastated at the passing of #BillGeddie the co-creator of @theviewabc. Bill took a chance and cast me – a standup comic with no talk show experience – as a co-host on #theview,” Sherri Shepherd wrote in a tribute post shared on Facebook.
