A new age in smart home security systems has dawned thanks to Amazon’s 2017 acquisition of Blink, a low-cost camera startup. With its line of easy-to-use, minimalistic DIY cameras, Blink has become a darling of the industry, particularly attractive to apartment dwellers and individuals on a budget.
While not precisely a bargain brand, Blink offers a well-rounded choice for individuals who wish to monitor their homes independently and without a lot of trouble. We recently tested and reviewed Blink cameras hands-on, and while we can’t say we were blown away by ultra HD video quality or groundbreaking motion detection, we still came away with a feeling of security and peace of mind, not to mention relief that we didn’t have to plunk down big bucks to build a Blink system. For excellent apartment security, we can see why many renters prefer Blink.
Rather than focusing on the specifics of the hardware and software, we’ll take a closer look at Blink as a company, including its pricing structure, plans, and special offers.

The Pricing of Blink
The Blink Indoor, Blink Outdoor, and Blink Mini cameras are the closest things we have to a universally applicable security camera. Each camera delivers its own set of basic but effective characteristics, allowing us to check off all of the boxes of home security we’re searching for: An accurate motion sensor, easy everyday usage, clear audio, a great picture, sturdy equipment, and practical storage.
Blink’s modest inventory is another plus in our book. Since the Blink Outdoor camera is essentially the same as the Blink Indoor camera with a waterproof shell, it’s vital to keep in mind that if you know how to use one Blink camera, you’ll know how to use them all.
Of course, if you’re leaning toward a brand with more options, we’d invite you to check out our evaluation of Reolink cameras, with costs ranging from $35 for a simple indoor device to $269 for a feature-heavy pan-and-tilt number. As an alternative, you may look into Wyze Cams, a DIY camera brand that is even more affordable than Blink (but with a few minor drawbacks).
In our opinion, this makes Blink a sensible investment for DIY home security, with equipment priced from $34.99 for the Mini to $99.99 for Blink Outdoor.

Final Thoughts
It might be difficult to locate the right wireless security cameras for your home, whether you want to cover the whole place or simply buy a few extras. In fact, the two AA long-life batteries that power these cameras allow them to work for up to two years without needing to be recharged.
As far as value, we continue to score Blink high. We’re not talking about rock-bottom prices here; we’d put Blink cameras in or around the mid-range area in terms of pricing. Blink cameras are a no-brainer for anyone looking for a hassle-free way to monitor their home.
