Following his emotional death, "Logan" ends with X-23 putting an X-sign on Wolverine's grave. Afterward, she ventures across the border with other young mutants so that they can find the Eden sanctuary and start their lives over. The conclusion is open-ended enough to tease future X-23 adventures, but is "Deadpool 3" the best vehicle for reintroducing her to MCU audiences?
Wolverine's inclusion in "Deadpool 3" could be a blessing and a curse for X-23's future on the screen. On one hand, it presents an opportunity for the character to find some closure while opening the door for her to have more superhero adventures. A standalone X-23 spin-off has been discussed since 2017, and the upcoming "Deadpool" sequel could set up that dream project.
However, "Deadpool 3" risks undoing the gravitas of "Logan" as the threequel will be a satirical superhero flick. Despite being part of the MCU, "Deadpool 3" will be R-rated like its predecessors. We can likely expect the Merc with the Mouth to continue breaking the fourth wall and lampooning the film's other characters. Is a comedy the best type of movie for X-23 to reconcile with her father after his noble warrior's death? Logan and X-23's history shouldn't be treated as a joke, and "Deadpool 3" will have to walk a delicate line to protect its legacy.
