PNP Chief Acorda Biography: Discover his early life, Family, and Personal Life

Acorda is also known as Benjamin Acorda Jr. He recently on Monday formally assumed his position as the new leader of the Philippine National Police (PNP), replacing retired General Rodolfo Azrun Jr. on his 56th birthday.

He has vowed that under his watch, the 228,000-strong police force would be transparent but relentless in its anti-crime campaign through a “conscientious police presence”.

PNP Chief Acorda Biography – Police Major General Benjamin Acorda Jr. became the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP). He was made the second to head the National Police Force under the administration of the President. He was born on 4th December 1967 in Ilocos Norte, Philippines. He is 55 years old as of 2023.

“We will not rest until every Filipino feels secure in their homes, in their streets, and in their places of work,” he said.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said he chose Acorda because he was “well-recognized in the police force.”

The president said he trusts Acorda to “calm down” the police force as it faces a number of issues, including a major drug bust in Manila last year. He also worked as the PNP’s director for intelligence. He is also part of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) ‘Sambisig’ Class of 1991.

He completed a master’s degree in management from the Philippine Christian University and received the Bronze Cross Medal. He is also the former Chief of Staff of the PNP Civil Defense Group and briefly commanded the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group.

Family, and Personal Life (Parents, Wife)

Acorda’s father’s name was Benjamin Acorda Sr. who was a lawyer. His father was also from La Union. His father also worked as counsel under the then-Citizen’s Legal Assistance Office (now Public Attorney’s Office) in La Union.

His mother anme was Purificacion Casuga Acorda. His mother had also served as a government nurse in La Union.

The PNP said in a release that Acorda:

“fondly recalls that it was his parents who instilled in him the virtues of patriotism and genuine public service at a very young age.”

He is a married man. He got married to Oliva Balasi Afaga. The couple met first time in school. There is no mention of when and where they got married. They have four children together.
