On Saturday, a motorcycle driver was killed in a collision with a vehicle on the H.E. Bailey Turnpike.
According to reports, at approximately 8:30 p.m. on September 30, the motorbike was moving eastbound on the Norman Spur, east of Blanchard.
An eastbound car struck the motorcycle from behind as it was stopped in the road, according to a trooper with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. The motorcycle and car left the road and collided with a cable barricade before coming to a stop. OHP reports that it is yet uncertain what caused the motorcycle to stop.
Edward Tabor, a 40-year-old Purcell resident riding a motorcycle, was declared dead at the scene. According to the OHP trooper’s report, neither the driver nor the occupants in the automobile suffered any injuries.
Several agencies responded to the site, which resulted in the closure of the road for almost three hours. In addition to OHP, the collision was attended to by the Blanchard Fire Department, McClain/Grady EMS, and the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office.
Norman is the third-most populous city in the U.S. state of Oklahoma, with a population of 128,026 as of the 2020 census.
