Father Mark Beard Obituary News: In loving memory of Amite Rev. Mark Beard killed in solo crash near the Louisiana-Mississippi border.
Rev. Mark Beard, pastor at St. Helena Catholic Church in Amite, was killed on Wednesday afternoon, August 2, in an automobile accident.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the single-car crash happened near the Louisiana-Mississippi border around 1:24 p.m.
Mr. Beard was traveling in a southern direction on Interstate 55 when his vehicle unexpectedly veered off the roadway and entered the median. Subsequently, the vehicle collided with a concrete culvert, resulting in it overturning. This unfortunate event occurred approximately one mile away from the state line.
Bishop Michael G. Duca asks for prayers for Fr. Beard and his family, parishioners, and friends who mourn his loss.
The announcement of Rev. Beard’s tragic death was flooded by heartfelt tributes and condolences across social media.
In a notable role, Father Beard, the priest of the church in Gov. John Bel Edwards’s home parish of Tangipahoa, took on the responsibility of delivering the benediction at both of the governor’s inaugurations.
“It is with profound sadness that we regret to inform you of the passing of our beloved friend and priest, Fr. Mark Beard. We will pray a Rosary in the church @ 8:00pm tonight for Fr. Mark. If you are not able to attend, please pray the Glorious Rosary from your home. God Bless,” Saint Helena Catholic Church wrote in a Facebook post.
