Iron Fist wasn’t exactly the most popular Marvel show on Netflix. In fact, its first season was a rare misfire for Marvel. And it received heavy criticism from us and just about everyone else. Still, it was part of a larger deal between Netflix and Marvel. And the other shows, primarily Daredevil and Jessica Jones, were much more successful. With the second season’s showrunner swap and fewer episodes, Iron Fist began to find its footing. And it came as a massive surprise when Netflix canceled the show in 2018. But it was only the first to go. All Netflix/Marvel shows would soon follow, most likely making room for Disney+ to be the Marvel TV haven.

Now, Finn Jones has shed a little light on what would have occurred in Season 3 following Season 2’s cliffhanger. In a Collider interview promoting Season 2 of the Apple TV+ series Dickinson, Jones said:

Raven [Metzner], who was the showrunner for the second season, and I were sure that there was gonna be a Season 3, so we had already devised the whole thing. I was so excited to get into that. It really was gonna be about Danny finally assuming the role of the Iron Fist, fully accomplished, fully charged up, and fully in control of his shit, as well. It was gonna be this amazing story [with] Danny and Ward off in foreign lands as a buddy storyline almost. And then, you had Colleen in New York, isolated with this new power, struggling to come to terms with her identity and with this power. At some point, we would have met again and probably formed this crazy power couple [or] superhero relationship.”

It’s a shame Iron Fist never got to reach its full potential. And Jones would go on to equate the cancellation to the death of a close friend. With Season 2 course-correcting the show, he felt they had gotten the “train back on the tracks.”

What do you think of these story elements? Do you wish Netflix had made a Season 3 of Iron Fist? Let us know in the comments!
