I love to go out to breakfast; it is my favorite meal to eat out because I will rarely make all those delicious dishes that early in the morning. We have tried all kinds of places and one thing for sure is that there are a bunch of great places in and around Lincoln to eat a great breakfast. Plus … breakfast has bacon!

Hungry for breakfast yet? I am! So I've rounded up my family's choices for the top five breakfast spots in our area, along with the reasons that my family loves them.

The Green Gateau

330 S. 10TH ST; 402-477-0330

Hours: Monday - Friday 11:00AM - 2:00PM and 5:00PM - 9:00PM;  Saturday 8:00AM - 9:00PM; Sunday 8:00AM - 3:00PM

What we love: This is our restaurant that we choose if just the two of us are going to breakfast. The atmosphere is great at the Green Gateau. Order the beignets with lemon curd (my husband's favorite). It can be tricky to find parking at The Green Gateau so plan for 5-10 minutes extra for parking.

Hi-Way Diner

2105 Highway 2; 402-423-6066

Hours: Open daily from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, breakfast is served all day.

What we love: Breakfast is served all day. All day! The make so many different kinds of omelets like beef philly and chicken fried steak. You'll find something on the menu for everyone here.

The Engine House Cafe

6028 Havelock Ave; (402) 467-2880

Hours: Monday-Saturday 6:00 AM-1:00 PM; Sunday 7:00 AM-2:00 PM.

What we love: This restaurant is a former fire station with an original wood ceiling. The servings are hearty; you won't leave hungry! I like the Biscuit Breakfast Combo and my kids always go for the pancakes which you can pick the flavor of.

Good Evans

6891 A St., Ste. 102 (Clock Tower Shopping Center); 402-488-3444

Hours: 6:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Daily

What we love:  They make homemade pop-tarts so your kids will be thrilled (or your inner kid!). We like their French toast, eggs benedict and sweet potato tots. There also Good Evans in Kearney and Omaha.

Tina's Cafe

616 South St; (402) 435-9404

Hours: Monday thru Friday: 6:30am-2pm (breakfast served until 11am); Saturday: 7am-11am breakfast only

What we love: Make sure to save room for a cinnamon roll and absolutely get the homemade hashbrowns! The décor is so much fun to look at; it will keep kids busy while waiting for food.
