Rumors have been circulating for a while now regarding not only the casting of Zombieland 2, but if the movie was even happening. Well, fans will have to wait no longer on news regarding the sequel to the 2009 zombie apocalypse comedy, as Sony have confirmed it is happening and that the full cast will return.
The news was revealed earlier this week, when THR reported that Sony would be moving forward with Zombieland 2. Sony Pictures President Sanford Panitch had the following to say regarding the announcement.
“This is one of those projects that fans have wanted to see happen for a long time – and no one wanted to see it happen more than Emma, Woody, Jesse, and Abigail,” Panitch said. “These are some of the most in-demand actors and I think they are making this movie because they love these characters. We are thrilled Ruben was willing to come back to direct the sequel, as his work on Venom has been truly amazing.”
As stated above, the original’s director, Ruben Fleischer, will head the project, following the completion of Venom. Zombieland 2 will be written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese.
As a result, that means production is slated to begin around early 2019, with the intention of releasing it next October.
That means it shouldn’t be too long now until more information is released. In the meantime, THR did share a taste of things to come, stating the sequel will see the characters” from the White House to the American heartland.” Alongside that, it’s been stated that there will be new kinds of zombie, not just humans, and more human characters as well.
