Funminiyi Afuye, who represents the Ikere constituency, died at the age of 66, after a brief illness. A member of the House confirmed to a conversation that he was rushed to the hospital, on Wednesday 19 October 2022, after developing complications over an undisclosed ailment, but after having died after many attempts by medical doctors to save his life failed.

Funminiyi Afuye was a member of the 3rd assembly between 2007 and 2011. Funminiyi was a Commissioner for 2 different ministries from 2011–2014; the Ministry of Integration and Intergovernmental Affairs and the Ekiti State Ministry of Information during the era of Governor Kayode Fayemi.
