When crowning ‘King of the Monsters’, Godzilla will always shoot to the top of the shortlist. Debuting in Ishiro Honda’s cautionary 1954 disaster movie, the behemoth immediately unleashed its potential to become an iconic screen presence. Since then, a franchise has thrived, not just in Japan but in the US too. Most recently, audiences have been flocking to marvel at the jaw-dropping spectacle of Godzilla Minus One.

It currently has a near-perfect 97/100 critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, determined from 86 reviews. Not only that, but it also stands proud with a 98/100 from audiences, based on over 1000 verified ratings.

“Godzilla Minus One is the best Godzilla movie in 70 years,” one fan gushed on Twitter/X. “It’s a genuine masterpiece of character and story standing beside the original film. This is THE modern Godzilla movie for those who want the spirit of the original but has its own heart.”

Another championed it as “the best Godzilla movie since the original. A deeply emotional, character-driven thrill ride that will captivate you from the first frame. Godzilla is once again a terrifying force of nature to be reckoned with. It will blow you away.”

“Best Godzilla movie since the original,” another similarly praised, “and a full circle for the King of the Monsters. I have to see it again ASAP, it is glorious!”

Emphasizing the titular titan himself, one argued that this incarnation “was truly the most terrifying Godzilla I’ve ever seen. The film exceeded my expectations. Character storylines were among the best in any Monster film. Regret, redemption, family, and purpose are some of the themes the film explored at its finest.”

Paired with Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters on Apple TV+ and a trailer for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, it’s a good time to be a fan.

Godzilla Minus One is excellent. One of the best films ever made and greatest Godzilla movie since the 1954 original. If you love film, the art form, love to write or make movies this is an example of how to do it perfectly. (10/10). #GodzillaMinusOne
