James “Jimmy” Nowak served as a police officer for the Milwaukee Police Department for almost 10 years. Jimmy had many friends and was always the life of the party. He could put a smile on anyone’s face at any given time. Jimmy truly had the biggest heart and laugh. Jimmy is one soul everyone will deeply miss.

On Tuesday, February 7, 2023, Jimmy’s closest friend, Officer Peter Jerving, was shot and died. When Milwaukee Police Department Officer Peter Jerving went to arrest Terrell I. Thompson, a 19-year-old suspect in larceny, from the city’s south side, he was shot and killed early on Tuesday.
Another officer pursued and arrested Thompson; a scuffle followed, with Jerving trailing behind. Thompson fired a handgun, striking the 37-year-old cop. Jerving then pulled out his gun. Norman claims that Thompson died at the scene, while Jerving died at a hospital. The chief also stated that it was not immediately clear if the suspect purposely caused his injuries.
Officer James Nowak accompanied Officer Peter Jerving for the four years that he worked for the Milwaukee Police Department. Jerving slept overnight at the Nowaks’ house, where he had his own room and worked on crafts.
