According to the police, the passenger who was killed in a collision that occurred in The Nations on Tuesday afternoon has been identified.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, Jessie Knox, who was 43 years old and from Nashville, was declared deceased at the scene of the incident. During the time that Knox was a passenger in a vehicle that had been stolen and had attempted to elude police, the search for the driver of that vehicle is still ongoing.
At an earlier point in the day, the pickup truck that was involved in the collision was taken from a residence located on Spring Path Lane in South Nashville.
A pickup truck with a Chevrolet 2500 engine rushed away from a law enforcement officer who was attempting to make a traffic check and went through the yard of a person at approximately 2:30 p.m.
The vehicle went off the road and into an open lot before turning onto Michigan Avenue, which brought about the beginning of a brief pursuit.
In response to the fact that the driver was not going to stop, the officer reportedly turned off his emergency equipment and did not continue to follow the driver. After continuing down the alley, the police eventually turned into the street, where witnesses noticed him and flagged him down.
According to the police, the truck was traveling at a high rate of speed along Michigan Avenue when it ran a stop sign at the intersection of 51st Avenue North. As a result, a Buick Envision accidentally hit the truck in the rear. The driver of the Buick had the right of way, but the police indicated that they were unable to prevent the collision from occurring.
When the pickup truck collided with a utility pole in a head-on collision, the pole was damaged. After going airborne, the vehicle eventually came to a stop on top of the pole in an inverted position.
In an attempt to evade law enforcement, the driver of the truck exited the wreckage and fled via backyards. A man with short hair and a dark-colored sweater and blue pants was described by the police as being in his mid-30s. He was also wearing blue jeans. Both aerial and ground searches were conducted by the police, but they were unable to locate him.
A portion of the passenger, who was later determined to be Knox, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the site.
In the event that you have any information regarding the driver of the truck, please contact Crime Stoppers at the number 615-742-7463.
