An investigation is underway by the Columbus Police Department into a two-vehicle collision that happened on South Marr Road on Tuesday afternoon. The crash resulted in three people being injured. A Columbus Police Department spokesman, Lt. Matt Harris, stated that soon after 1:30 p.m., CPD officers were dispatched to the 700 block of South Marr Road in response to a report of an injury-related vehicle crash.
Investigators subsequently discovered that Luis Y. Otero, 16, of Columbus, was operating a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt when he lost control of the car, crossed the center line, and collided with the head of Cheryl A. Hanner, 66, of Norman, Indiana, who was operating a 2016 Toyota Corolla. At the time of the crash, Otero was driving north in the 700 block of South Marr Road.
The crash resulted in injuries for Otero and his passenger, Columbus resident Kole D. Shewmaker, 16. Harris claims that Shewmaker was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis by IU Lifeline, and that he is currently in a condition that is deemed “extremely critical.” Otero received additional medical attention via helicopter and is currently in critical condition at the IU Methodist Hospital.
Hanner was also transferred to IU Methodist Hospital to receive care for significant wounds that weren’t thought to be life-threatening. The crash is currently being investigated by the Bartholomew County Accident Reconstruction Team.
