Lauren Collins, a college student who was 18 years old, died early Sunday morning in Kentucky when a tire fell off a moving truck and hit her windshield. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that Lauren Collins was going south on Interstate 75 near the Ohio border just after midnight when a truck’s tire came off on the north side of the road.

The tire that was out of control rolled over the concrete divider and hit the windshield of Collins’ 2012 Buick LaCrosse. Police said that when emergency services from the Walton Fire Department got to the scene, they “extricated” her from the wreckage of her car.

Collins was taken to the nearby University of Cincinnati Medical Center “with life-threatening injuries,” where she later died. The only person in the car, police said, was Collins. Police say that the truck and its owner have not yet been found.

They think it was a two-door van with four tires on the back axle. Collins was a student at the University of Kentucky. He was from Independence, Kentucky. According to her obituary, she had just finished her first year as a fashion marketing major after finishing high school in May 2022. People thought of her as a “free spirit” and a “joke” who loved to dance.

On her Facebook, her cousin wrote, “I’m glad I got to know you, Lauren Collins, and I’m glad our families have come together.” “I will always remember our times together, especially the ones we had alone. Fly high, beautiful soul, because today, heaven is getting a very special angel.”
