Leila Arias and Jaidy Alcala Accident; Victims Passes Away In ATV Accident At Rio Grande Care Near Lake Edinburg, Texas
The identities of the two adolescents who died in a fatal all-terrain vehicle accident close to Lake Edinburg, Texas, have been released.
The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Department reports that an investigation is underway into a fatal UTV crash that occurred on Sunday, November 26, 2023, and claimed the lives of two teenagers, ages 17 and 18.
The incident occurred at about 6:50 p.m. in the rural Edinburg neighborhood of the 6400 block of Rio Grande Care, according to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Department.
Leila Arias and Jaidy Alcala, according to law authorities, died when their ATV went into a canal close to Lake Edinburg.
The two youngsters were trapped inside the UTV, which was found partially submerged near the canal by the lake by law enforcement officials.
Two adolescents had come to his house for help with their injuries, a 911 caller told deputies. Investigators said the girls were driven to a neighboring hospital by the caller’s wife.
When deputies arrived, they discovered the UTV involved lying on its side in the canal, in water that was between two and three feet deep.
After pulling the two youngsters out of the water, the sheriff’s deputies began CPR right away. After being transported by ambulance to a hospital, they were declared dead. The autopsy has been ordered by the justice of the peace.
After questioning the two survivors, investigating authorities learned that the tragedy happened in the canal near to Lake Edinburg because the 17-year-old victim lost control of the ATV he was operating. The authorities said she had never driven a UTV before.
