During the Geeked Week live stream, Netflix unveiled the trailer for its original live-action adaptation of Resident Evil. The series will be based on CAPCOMS’s long-running video game franchise. At the same time as a new trailer, the service also revealed a new poster.

As of now, the Resident Evil show cast consists of Lance Reddick, Ella Balinnska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adelie Rudolph, and Paola Nunez. Bronwen Hughes (The Walking Dead) is directing the series at Constanti Film. Andrew Dabb (Supernatural) is writing the script. When Netflix first announced the series, it posted an image of the script for the first episode. This first episode of the eight-episode series will be titled “Welcome to Raccoon City.”

Netflix’s “Resident Evil”: A New Approach to an Old Franchise

Netflix briefly described the story in February 2020. Now, The Hollywood Reporter describes the story:

“The Netflix series will tell its new story across two timelines. In the first, 14-year-old sisters Billie and Jade Wesker are moved to New Raccoon City. A manufactured, corporate town, forced on them right as adolescence is in full swing. But the more time they spend there, the more they come to realize that the town is more than it seems and their father may be concealing dark secrets. Secrets that could destroy the world. The second, more than a decade in the future sees less than 15 million people left on Earth. And more than 6-billion monsters- people and animals infected with the T-virus. Jade, now 30, struggles to survive in this new world, while the secrets from her past – about her sister, her father, and herself continue to haunt her.”

While there are many iterations of the Resident Evil universe, Netflix’s UPC coming series looks to be giving a spin on the old formula. It seems to be a relief since the previous adaptations of Resident Evil (more notably, Welcome to Raccoon City) weren’t very successful with casual and hardcore fans.
