The Indian government created and owns Sandes, a freeware instant messaging system. It may be used on smartphones, tablets, and computers. Both the platform and its infrastructure are subject to the norms and regulations of the Indian government.

Instant chat, VoIP, file sharing, and integration with other Indian Government digital services are among the services offered by Sandes. Initially, it was exclusively open to government employees, but that has changed, and now anyone can use it. For the time being, only verified users have access to the platform’s full functionality.

In Terms of Features, Is Sandes Better Than WhatsApp? What’s New About This?

Sandes is ad-free, and there are no in-app purchases to make. The app’s name is displayed as GIMS when you download it (Government Instant Messaging System). As a Hindi word for “message,” Sandes is being referred to by the administration.

Sandes has a WhatsApp-like user interface and most of WhatsApp’s capabilities are available in this app as well. In the meanwhile, let’s have a look at some of the key distinctions between WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.

Sandes allows users to join up using an email address, rather than only a phone number. Government officials, on the other hand, have access to this service. You can only sign up for a WhatsApp account with your phone number.

Verified accounts are also available on this site, although they are not on WhatsApp. You can send films and photographs with a combined 500MB of data using the official government messaging app. You can transfer films up to 16MB in size and normal files up to 100MB using the latter.

We appreciated the ability to back up chats to an external location rather than just your device. Email can also be used to store a copy of your chats. There are just two ways to back up WhatsApp chats: Google Drive on Android and iCloud on iOS.

The Sandes app, on the other hand, does not allow you to modify your phone number or email address after signing up. All previous conversations will be lost if you have to register a new account because of a change in your mobile phone number or email address. WhatsApp, on the other hand, allows you to change your phone number without destroying your account.

WhatsApp does not currently include a fingerprint lock feature or a screen lock feature. Also unavailable are features like incognito keyboard mode and screen security (the ability to prohibit screenshots). As with the Signal app, you can’t tell when someone has viewed your message when you send it.

Sandes, on the other hand, allows you to view local weather conditions within the app while you’re on the go. It’s neat that communications can include labels like “priority” or “secret”. Symbols used in official communication are also displayed in a section called “Gimoji.”

On the Sandes app, you’ll find options like the broadcast message, status, disappearing messages, forward messages, deleting messages, and archiving chats, to name a few. At least 50 people can join your group. Additionally, Sandes provides the ability to sync contacts and add new contacts from the same platform. It’s possible for anyone to join a group on this instant messaging software, and there is no invitation process.

Privacy labels in the App Store for this app reveal that it gathers contact information, content, identifiers, and other information. In the latter case, the system records the sender’s and recipient’s identities, as well as the date, time, and size of any instant or group messages, as well as the duration of any audio or video calls.

All of the logs and crash reports, as well as the user’s service settings, online status, last seen status, and the date of when you last changed your profile It’s not unusual for chat apps to collect these types of information.

Individual and group messages are both encrypted “End-to-End” for “Secure Communication” in Sandes, the app’s policy states. As stated in the policy, “any third party, except covered under law enforcement/court matter, etc.,” will not receive or receive any personally identifiable information from the system.”

There shall be no unauthorized access, alteration, or destruction of any information that is entered into the system.

Is The Sandes App Compatible With A Computer, Tablet, or Laptop?

Only Android and iOS users can currently access the Sandes app. Tablets aren’t supported, although the web version of the software is. As of now, the app isn’t available on the Play Store, so you’ll have to download it from the government’s website. The Sandes app may be downloaded from the App Store for iOS devices.

Update: Sandes App is Now Available For Android Users too.
