Serenity Hawley and Croney Monk Obituary: High School students identified as suspect and victim in Blacksburg murder-suicide.
Two persons who were discovered dead in a car in a parking garage on Tuesday afternoon have been identified by the police as Blacksburg High School students.
In a news release issued on Wednesday morning, Blacksburg police stated that upon responding to a call of a suspicious vehicle in a parking garage located in the 700 block of University City Boulevard, they discovered the two deceased individuals, who were both minors.
One of the teenagers was identified as Serenity Hawley, 17, of Blacksburg, by her father, John Hawley, 49, of Oldsmar, Florida.
Serenity would have turned eighteen on Thursday, while she was a senior at Blacksburg High School. He stated she was excited to be attending Virginia Tech after receiving her acceptance.
According to Hawley, his daughter was shot while sitting in the driver’s seat of her car and died as a result. Hawley claimed that his daughter’s ex-boyfriend, a high school junior and former varsity football player, had got inside the car, shot her, and then taken his own life.
Police reported that they discovered a firearm in the car containing the minors. The Montgomery County Public Schools and the Blacksburg department are collaborating, according to the department, “to ensure that any services MCPS staff or students may need are available.”
The victims’ next of kin have been informed by investigators, the department said.
According to police, the event seems to be isolated and poses “no ongoing threat to the community,” as of Wednesday. The department has not classified the occurrence as a murder-suicide, despite the fact that their investigation is “active and ongoing.”
