A great figure in both professional basketball and dentistry passed away on October 10th, 2023. When Terry Dischinger went away, he left a lasting impression on many facets of his life.
Terry Dischinger had an effect on those around him from his early years playing basketball to his later years working as a dentist.
On November 21st, 1940, Terry Dischinger was born in Terre Haute, Indiana. He went to Purdue University, where he studied dentistry and played college basketball for three years.
Throughout his basketball career, Dischinger received various awards for his prowess on the floor. Dischinger had a successful career in dentistry, practising for more than 30 years in addition to his sporting accomplishments.
Dischinger was taken by the Chicago Zephyrs in the first pick in the second round (19 overall) of the 1962 NBA Draught. Dischinger made an immediate impression on the league, capturing Rookie of the Year honours in 1962–1963 with a 57–game average of 25.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 3.1 assists.
Throughout his career, he kept becoming better, making several All-Star teams and breaking a lot of records. However, an injury ended his playing career early, and he gave up basketball in 1973.
