In the 1st season, Lady Danbury proved to be a ferocious opponent to the Duke of Hastings, Simon's father (Richard Pepple), when he rejected Simon due to his stutter. She not only called out the duke for his mistreatment, but she also took Simon under her wing and turned her into a fine young man. Her clever meddling with Lady Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmel) got Simon (Regé-Jean Page) and Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) together.
Much like in Season 1, Lady Danbury and Lady Bridgerton are determined to make a match out of Anthony and Edwina in Season 2. Making use of her considerable influence, Lady Danbury easily persuades the Queen into declaring Edwina the diamond of the season. But on the other hand, in a departure from her sophisticated tactics, she resorts to sticking her ear on Edwina's door to find what she feels about Anthony. She then proceeds to share a joyful nonverbal exchange with Lady Bridgerton, who happens to be doing the exact same thing at Anthony's door.
Lady Danbury is privy to even the most secretive information of the Ton through her social network and her own astute observational power. Further, she is a fearless woman expert at using what she knows to get what she wants. It is perhaps a little beneath her to use pedestrian means such as eavesdropping outside someone's door to listen to them. This moment, in the case of Lady Danbury, seems to have gone too far.
