Musical career

1998–2004: The start of a career

After graduating from high school, Aldean and his band played at venues and events all around the Southeast with the assistance of his father. Aldean started creating and recording original music with Justin Weaver, one of the band members. He played songs from his debut album in 1998 at a showcase put on by The Buckboard nightclub in Atlanta. Michael Knox, who was working at Warner-Chappell at the time, approached him. At the age of 21, Aldean relocated to Nashville on November 1st after signing with Warner-Chappell.

Aldean received a recording deal offer, but it was later withdrawn. After signing with a different company, he was once more let go in 2000 because his label kept delaying his recording sessions. Numerous showcases didn’t result in a contract for him. The attempt at the Wildhorse Saloon, where the expected label talent scouts failed to appear, was the final straw. Aldean gave himself six months to prepare for his impending departure from Nashville and return to Georgia because he was still depressed and irritated with his stuttering career. Then, five weeks later, he received a contract offer from Nashville’s Broken Bow Records. Aldean hired Kevin Neal as his new (and present) agent soon after his self-titled debut album was released. Aldean also switched to Clarence Spalding and Spalding Entertainment for management while working on Relentless.

Jason Aldean and Relentless from 2005 until 2008

Early in 2005, Aldean’s first single, “Hicktown,” was made available. It debuted at number 10 on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs list and served as the album’s lead-off. With “Why,” the album also gave him his first number-one hit. McBride & the Ride’s non-charting single “Amarillo Sky,” which peaked at number 4, was finally released on this album. ACM nominated this song for Song of the Year and Video of the Year in 2006. At the 2006 ACM Awards, Aldean won “Top New Male Vocalist” honours. The RIAA certified the album platinum in 2007 after it sold over 1,000,000 copies in the country.

Aldean worked with producer Michael Knox for the majority of January 2007 to complete his second album, Relentless. On May 29, 2007, this CD was made available, and at Wal-Mart stores, it was accompanied by a Limited Edition CMT Pick DVD that featured Aldean’s performances. The album’s opening track, Tracy Byrd’s “Johnny Cash,” was covered by Jason Aldean and peaked at No. 6. His fifth consecutive Top 10 song, “Laughed Until We Cried,” was its follow-up. The RIAA awarded Relentless a platinum certification, and the album’s title track was made available as the third single. The song failed to make the Top 10 on the country charts, making it Aldean’s lowest-charting single in both the United States and Canada.
